Calvin Mitchell

There are people who lead from the front and there are those who lead from within. Calvin Mitchell is the kind of leader who does both, quietly transforming how community engagement is done in Raleigh. With over 15 years of public service experience, Calvin has dedicated his career to building trust, connection, and collaboration across neighborhoods, agencies, and youth programs in the city he calls home.

As a senior leader in the Chief’s Office at the Raleigh Police Department, Calvin plays a pivotal role in shaping the department’s 21st century policing strategies. From interagency partnerships to grassroots outreach, he is often the connector behind the scenes, listening to residents, aligning resources, and creating programs that respond to real community needs. His work is not only strategic but deeply rooted in empathy, equity, and empowerment.

Before stepping into this high impact citywide role, Calvin served as a Community Center Director for Raleigh Parks and a School Based Program Manager, overseeing youth and family programming that became cornerstones for neighborhood support. Whether managing operations or mentoring young leaders, Calvin brings a level of care and commitment that resonates with everyone he works with.

“My strong work ethic comes from my father, and my genuine love for the community and people was instilled in me by the most loving and caring person I know—my mother.” These values continue to guide Calvin in every room he walks into, reminding him that leadership is about service, and impact begins with heart.

Through every initiative, Calvin Mitchell proves that building stronger communities starts with listening, understanding, and showing up consistently. His work has helped shape safer, more connected neighborhoods and a more trusted relationship between institutions and the people they serve.

Calvin represents what it means to lead with purpose. His story reminds us that when we are grounded in where we come from, we are better equipped to shape where we are going.
